AHL - 
American Hockey League.

Apple - An assist.

Bar Down – Shot that hits the top bar of the net before crossing the goal line. 

Beauty- A player who teammates enjoy being around, generally an awesome person.

Blue liner – A defenseman who has a shot.

Blue paint - The goalies crease.

Bookmark - The player who never plays, separating the forwards from the defense on the bench.

Bucket - Helmet.

Cage - Metal grid that attaches to the front of a helmet to protect the face.

Center – A forward position whose primary zone of play is the middle of the ice.

Celly - A players celebration after scoring a goal.

Change on the fly - Substituting a player from the bench while the game clock is running.

Cheddar - To score top shelf, high on the goalie. Also known as “Cheds”. 

(The) Chell – The NHL

Cherry Picker - Player who hangs out in his opponent’s zone awaiting a long pass. 

Chirp - To talk trash. 

Chrip-Snipe-Celly - Gameplan.

Clapper - Hard slap shot.

Coast to Coast - When a player carries the puck from his own net all the way to his opponent’s and scores. 

Crease - The blue ice in front of each net.

Cross-check - To check an opponent with the ends of the stick held in both hands.

Dangle - Misdirecting an opponent while handling the puck. 

Deke - A fake out. 

Delay of game – Deliberately causing a stoppage of play; player is penalized with a minor penalty.

Dipsy Doodle - A fancy deke which fools the opponent.

Dirty – Something sweet/awesome, Example: “that OT goal was so dirty.”

Dive - When a player exaggerates a hit to get the other team a penalty. 

Drop Pass - To leave the puck behind or pass it to a trailing teammate. 

Dummied - When a player is hit hard and lays on the ice without moving.

Dust Bunny – A puck bunny who gets with the worst players on the team.  

Duster – A player which no game, usually sits on the bench “collecting dust”.

Energy Line - The group of players or line that inspires the team with hard work and enthusiasm.

Gino - Another term for a goal.

Gitch - Jock strap. 

Gongshow - Another way of saying “crazy experience” or “crazy event”.
Example 1: The game last night was a total gongshow, I’ve never seen so many penalties.
Example 2: That party last night was such a gongshow.

Goon - A player with no skill who usually just fights. 
Example: Tyler is such a Goon, He got tossed out from the game for filling in Robertson’s face. 

Gordie Howe Hat Trick – To get a goal, an assist, and fight all in the same game.

Greasy - As in a ‘greasy goal’ or a ‘greasy win’ that is not pretty, but gets the job done, Or, just simply to be greasy (unhygienic).

Grinder - A player who digs deep, hustles to make plays. 

Gutty/Gutless - Something that is just wrong or something that someone just shouldn’t do. Examples of gutty/gutless moves:
Cheating on your boy with his teammate
Hooking up with your bestfriends brother.

Face Wash – To grab the face of an opponent with your glove on. 

Fishbowl - An ugly helmet with a full face visor (mighty ducks style).

Five Hole - The area in between the goalie’s legs. 

Flow - Longish hair that is sleeked back. 

FTB - For the boys. 

FTG - For the girls. 

Hat Trick - Scoring three goals in one game. 

Head Hunt – To single out a player to make a big hit. 

Hoser - A loser - Originated from the pre-zamboni days when the losing team had to hose off the ice. 

Icing – Icing occurs when a player shoots the puck across both the center red line and the opposing team’s goal line without the puck going into the net or being touched by an opposing player in their neutral or defensive zones.

Jerseying - In a hockey fight, pulling the opponent jersey over their head so they are stuck inside the jersey while you continue to fight.

Jibbs - Teeth.
Example: Ryan took a high stick to the face last night, looks like he’s getting some new jibs soon.  

Keeper – Goalie. 

Konky - To be concussed. 

Left Wing - Forward position, to play the left side of the centre. 

Lid – Helmut. 

Light The Lamp - Scoring a goal.

Line Brawl - A series of fights involving most, or all, players on the ice at the same time.

Man on - A warning from teammates to a player that an opposing player (that he may be unaware of) is near him. 

Money Line - The best line on the team.

Mucker - A physical player who lacks finesse but gets the job done by forechecking, working the boards, etc. He is not afraid to do the dirty work.

Mutt - A girl who is deemed as gross or sleeps around.

NHL - National Hockey League.

OHL - Ontario Hockey League.

OJHL - Ontario Junior Hockey League. 

One-timer - Taking a hard shot right off the pass without pausing.

Pipes - The goal posts.

Playing the Point -When a forward passes the puck to the defenseman in attempt to set up a play. 

Plug – A player with no game.

Puck Bunny - A girl who is more interested in getting the player’s attention than watching the game.

Pull The Goalie - Removing the goalie from the ice in order to temporarily replace him with an extra skater.

Pylon - Skater who just stands still / a player that has no game.

QMJHL - Quebec Minor Junior Hockey League.

Rocket - Someone who is considered to be highly attractive.
Example: Carrie Underwood is a total rocket. 

Salad - Hair.

Sauce / Throwing sauce - A pass made although it was a saucer.

Schoolyard Puck - Pick-up hockey.

Shinny - Pick-up hockey usually played on a homemade rink or pond.

Shmelt - A rookie on a hockey team. Used as if to call someone a loser.
Example: “Fuck me Smitty is such a shmelt.”

Shutzy - To go to sleep.

Sick flow - Long hair slicked back.

Sieve - A goalie with a lot of “holes” meaning he allows a lot of goals.

Sin Bin – Penalty Box.

Slapper - A slap shot.

Slot - The middle area in front of the net.

Snipe – A hard, accurate shot.

Sniper - Player with an accurate shot who often scores from a distance.

Stoned - A goalkeeper makes a great save and the shooter is “stoned”.

Stripes - Referees.

Tilly - A fight.

Tip – To tip the puck into the net.

Top Cheese – Getting a goal in the upper part of the net.

Top Shelf - To put a goal in the upper part of the net.

Top Titty - A top-shelf goal.

Tripod- A player who has to balance himself with his stick.

Twig -  Hockey stick

Wheels – To skate hard.

Wheeling - Picking up girls.
Example: “Man she’s a total rocket, I’ve been wheeling her for while now” 

WHL - Western Hockey League.

Wrap around - To come from behind the net and squeeze it past the goalie.

Wrister - A wrist shot.

WTB - With the boys.

WTG - With the girls.

Yard sale - When there is a fight and equipment is scattered all over the ice. 

Zamboni - Automotive machine used to clean the ice surface.
